Krueger Technology Center
Testing & Analysis Facilities
Primary Test Room
The unique air flow characteristics of each Krueger diffuser, grille
and register are measured in the Primary Test Room. Visitors to the Technology
Center use this area to gather throw (velocity) data and to visualize air flow
patterns.
Performance data can be obtained over a wide range of operating conditions. For instance, performance data for a diffuser can be acquired during cooling, heating or isothermal conditions at any air flow and operating pressure. Outside conditions are simulated using a thermal wall, capable of simulating outside air temperatures of -10° F to 115° F.
Full perimeter mockups are performed in this space. A catwalk provides access to the space above the ceiling to acquaint visitors with recommended ducting and installation. Testing and demonstration of Kruegers Sterilflo® system & REG for hospital operating rooms is also done in this test cell.
Reverberation Chamber
The acoustical performance of all Krueger products is measured in the
Reverberation Chamber. The Chamber is a specifically built room, measuring
8,820 ft.³ (250 m³). Air is delivered to this room through
a special ultra-quiet delivery system. Airflow volume is digitally controlled.
Sound power data is obtained in accordance with current ASHRAE and ARI industry standards. Sound performance of terminal units, diffusers and grilles is analyzed using data gathered in this room.
Industrial Room: The Industrial Room is a working part of the Technology Center. With a high, exposed ceiling, hard floors and metal forming equipment, the Industrial Room serves as a demonstration and testing area for Krueger's industrial grilles and louvers.
Clean Room Environment & Laboratory
Krueger's exclusive Clean Air Distribution products, like the TAD Radial
Displacement Diffuser, are tested and demonstrated in the Clean Environment
Room. The Clean Environment Room is an actual working clean laboratory
facility with vinyl tile floor, low leakage ceiling, lighting and two
fume hoods.
The Room is equipped with laboratory-grade furnishings which can be relocated
for client mock-ups of actual projects. Air terminal inlet static pressure,
primary air flow volume, discharge air temperature, space temperature, lab
pressurization along with exhaust tracking are metered and controlled digitally.
Fume Hood Evaluation
The Clean Environment Room contains one vertical fume with a single
sash and one combination fume hood with four horizontal sashes and one vertical
sash. Both hoods are fully operational and are controlled by Siemens
Technologies digital variable air volume (VAV) fume hood controllers.
A VAV supply box with reheat and a general exhaust box located in the lab
room are also digitally controlled and integrated with the fume hood controls.
The fume hoods are certified through a series of tests: face velocity, smoke and tracer gas. The Technology Center is equipped to perform each of these tests in accordance with the guidelines established by ASHRAE 110 - industry standard for fume hood certification.
Additionally, Krueger is able to model laboratory air flow using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD. The Technology Center is uniquely equipped to evaluate functioning full size laboratories, including fume hoods.
Architectural Room
Designed and furnished in the style of a general-use office or small
conference room in a typical commercial building, the Architectural Room serves
a dual purpose as a Terminal Unit Demo Room. Krueger's line of architectural
ceiling diffusers are displayed in the Architectural Room and in the corridor
adjacent to the room.
The Architectural Room is also a functional test cell, used to confirm predicted sound levels in accordance with ARI industry standards for air terminals. Approximately 2500 ft. in size, with a 9 ft. high architectural ceiling and a 3 ft. deep open-sided ceiling plenum above, the area is ideal for testing and demonstrating the acoustic performance of different terminal types. During client visits, terminals can be changed from above the ceiling without disturbing the room.
CFD Analysis
Krueger has the unique ability to study the flow of air in commercial
office spaces using the latest modeling techniques. CFD is used to analyze
air flow vectors and gradients, providing insight into optimum
Actual demonstration of product performance in the Architectural Room confirms the best CFD model, saving hours or even days of time normally spent physically changing a mock-up test.
Product Showcase & Training Room
This large classroom serves as a training facility for employees, sales
representatives and customers. The room also showcases many of Krueger's
air distribution products, enabling hands-on product demonstration and
training. Multimedia capabilities facilitate the understanding of basic
air distribution principles as well as sophisticated product application and selection.
